Biography

Ruri Hidema received her Ph.D. in 2010 from Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology, where she worked on image analysis of polymer-doped two-dimensional turbulence under the supervision of Prof. Hideharu Ushiki. During her studies from 2007 to 2008, she spent a year at ENS Paris-Saclay (formerly ENS Cachan) as a student of the College Doctoral Franco-Japonais, where she worked on spectroscopic imaging under the supervision of Dr. Robert Pansu. After completing her Ph.D., she became a postdoctoral fellow at Yamagata University from 2010 to 2012, where she worked with Prof. Hidemitsu Furukawa. In 2012, she became an assistant professor at Kobe University, where she started to work on the rheology of complex fluids in collaboration with Prof. Hiroshi Suzuki. In 2016, she spent 6 months as a visiting researcher at the University of California Berkeley, where she had the opportunity to learn microfluidics from Prof. Susan J. Muller. In 2019, she was promoted to Associate Professor at Kobe University. In 2022, she also spent one month collaborating with Prof. François Lequeux on elastic instability of polymer solution at ESPCI Paris. In 2024, she joined the Department of Mechanical Systems Engineering, Nagoya University, where she is currently leading a research group focused on the rheology of complex fluids.
